      Russ Edmond O'Brien as the hard-boiled submarine commander and pretty boy James Garner as the eye candy for the ladies. Pretty weak and slow-moving as sub pictures go. Alan Hale, Jr. is an ensign promoted to LT JG before he was stranded on Gilligan's Island as The Skipper. His father had been aboard Cary Grant's sub in the pic made during the war, "Destination: Tokyo." There's a love interest thrown in and that turns out just as you'd have predicted. In addition to the technical errors and absurdities in the script there's this anachronism: it shows Japanese soldiers playing baseball when in fact the game was only introduced to Japan during the US Occupation after the war! But, why let facts get in the way of a useful plot device! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Audience Member Tense. Good storyline and characters.
