      Critics Consensus

In spite of its wonderfully unusual premise and talented cast, Upside Down fails to offer much in the way of compelling drama to anchor its admittedly dazzling visuals.

Janell W I really liked this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Gwen T This movie is terrible. I had to watch it for a class and it was genuinely painful to sit through and made me never want to watch movies again. Incredibly corny with terrible physics and Incredibly bad acting. I would rate this 0 if I could. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Dustin C Despite all the harsh criticism online about this movie, I actually really enjoyed it. Wish a sequel happened. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review Adam W The movie is fantastic; I don't understand the comments about poor storytelling. The story is simple and compelling, about love and loyalty. The super creative environment in which it unfolds explores an age-old theme of star-crossed lovers in a new way. It never hurts to remind us that it is individual people that change the world too because of something they are passionate about. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/23 Full Review TOO M The film makes people see that love is the icebreaker of all difficulties. No matter how many difficulties in the world, even insurmountable, as long as there is love in, all this is not a problem. The film moved people to tears. There is a kind of sincerity that transcends science fiction. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Anton Bitel Sight & Sound The problem is that the physics here are patently ridiculous, and there is likewise no viable chemistry between stars Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst. May 26, 2014 Full Review James Adams Globe and Mail Soon enough the worlds of Up Top and Down Below feel like distractions, CGI Potemkin villages. Rated: 2/4 Apr 26, 2013 Full Review Peter Howell Toronto Star A Romeo and Juliet story for the age of CGI overkill, Upside Down zigs where it should zag and dulls where it should dazzle. Rated: 2/4 Apr 25, 2013 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens One of the most original, creative and technically accomplished films of our time, Upside Down is a pure delight. Nov 27, 2019 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Unfortunately, there's absolutely no character development, tossing a poorly realized and mundane love story at us that's furthered only by its nicely varnished visuals. Aug 8, 2019 Full Review Leslie Combemale Cinema Siren You've never seen a couple so bathed in light and aglow with love and its accompanying optimism. Jul 30, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
