Audience Member Awful acting and dialogues, a weak and predictable plot. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member When an evil, throne-usurping despot (Lupo) learns the infant son of the king and queen he stole the throne from somehow survived, he sets in motions plans to capture and kill him. If only the idiot had left well enough alone, becuase the kid in question--Ursus (Fury)--had no idea he was supposed to be king and was living happily with the lions who had raised him from infancy and the cute former slave girl who loves him (Orfei). "Ursus in the Valley of the Lions" is a quirky cross between a Tarzan rip-off and a Machiste-type fantasy tale. It gets some consideration for creativity of concept, but it's a little too slow moving and driven a little too firmly by Stupid Character Syndrome to be a truly effective film. (Young Ursus is living in ignorance among the lions in an an isolated valey. If the Evil King had simply left him there, he would have been able to continue his Nefarious Ways unimpeeded instead of eventually seeing himself overthrown by a rampaging musclebound wildman and his faithful lion companion.) If you enjoy low fantasy films, and if you're able to buy into the "raised by beasts" origins of characters like Tarzan, I think you'll find much to like in "Ursus in the Valley of the Lions", despite its flaws. The acting is decent and the dubbing is well done, and it even has the added bonus of slave girls in skimpy costumes. (Note: There are lions, elephants, horses, and hyenas in this film, but no tigers. That's a real shame. The film would have been perfect with a lion, a tiger, and Ursus.) Ursus in the Valley of Lions (aka "The Valley of Lions") Starring: Ed Fury, Alberto Lupo, Moira Orfei, and María Luisa Merlo Director: Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
