Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter This slapdash war movie doesn't do justice to its compelling subject matter. Nov 12, 2016 Full Review Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com Not exactly unwatchable, but it's also completely not worthy of watching. Rated: 1.5/4 Nov 11, 2016 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times The film's leaden treatment of this incredible story somehow sucks all the drama out of it. Nov 10, 2016 Full Review Asia Frey Lagniappe (Mobile, AL) We get to experience this incredible story, starring so many of our local folks and landmarks, on the big screen. Aug 23, 2018 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com Cage remains uncharacteristically subdued in the lead role. Or perhaps I'm misinterpreting his complete boredom. Rated: D Nov 10, 2016 Full Review Chris Bumbray JoBlo's Movie Network One can't help but be mortified for Cage. A bargain-basement would-be WW2 epic with hilariously poor CGI and an abysmal script. Mike O Bad, weak, corny, lame. I can't believe they took an event like the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, the worst single loss of life event in US Navy history, and did that to it. Deserved so much better. Cage was awful. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/31/25 Full Review Stephen C Success in 2.25 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated R for War-Related Images and Brief Language!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/27/25 Full Review Lew 8 Cheap garbage. Bad acting, cheap effects, and even the wrong shark species. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review CT 8 Not quite as tragic as the true life event itself, but a tragedy all the same. In the hands of a decent director, competent writers, and capable actors this could have been a classic war movie befitting the subject matter. Instead, we get a made for TV, B-movie that fails on all fronts. If you really want to learn about the tragedy of the USS Indianapolis there are some fine documentaries available. They're 10X more insightful and impactful than this nonsense. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/25 Full Review David H I am not sure who has it worse. The viewers of this bomb or the men of the Indy. So much crap they had to make it last over 2 hours. Get the Imodium because something has to give Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Larry D I love war movies but this was terrible. Acting was B movie at best. Some of the scenes were just cringe worthy...A guy gets burned opening a door on the ship and there was no fire in the room to heat the door. The captain is somehow separated from the crew in the ocean...um how the hell does that happen when they all went down together. Just plain dumb. I want my 2 hours of life back from watching this train wreck. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews
