Noel Murray The Dissolve Plot and character sketchiness aside, though, Vanishing Waves is incredibly absorbing, because Buozyte and Samper are smart about how sexual urges can override all reason and obligation. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 23, 2013 Full Review Farran Smith Nehme New York Post There are interesting themes: about how much of the impulse to love is hidden from the conscious mind, and how much of sex is fantasy. But the impact is diminished by lifeless leads. Rated: 2/4 Mar 15, 2013 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times This Lithuanian love story from Kristina Buozyte offers a discomfiting blend of visual ecstasy and narrative sterility. Rated: 2/5 Mar 14, 2013 Full Review Q.V. Hough Vague Visages Vanishing Waves boasts a touch of Andrei Tarkovsky, but I found many similarities to the psychosexual thrillers of French director Alain Robbe-Grillet. Jun 30, 2022 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com While some of the performances are stilted and the central romance isn't quite engaging, there's a hypnotic power to the memorable imagery, a tequila sunrise dreamscape tapping into unexplored chasms of sensuality. Nov 13, 2020 Full Review Eric Melin Scene-Stealers.com Writer/director Kristina Buozyte creates some stunning dreamscapes and puts together the shared-experience sequences with a real freshness. A patient who, apparently, is a big fan of Davids Lynch and Cronenberg.
