Oliver M Sorry This is more than ok It seems that a scene is missing here and there Robert Vaughn so holds a scene and he has an alcohol problem The interaction between the actors is quite good The CIA is defined by hats. And the look of the movie is so well composed It has atmosphere if nothing else Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/23/23 Full Review Steve D The script wasn't good enough to work. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/27/23 Full Review ashley h The Venetian Affair is a boring film. It is about a former CIA man, now a journalist, is sent to Venice to investigate the shock suicide bombing by an American diplomat at a peace conference. Robert Vaughn and Elke Sommer give disappointing performances. The screenplay is badly written. Jerry Thorpe did a horrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Robert Vaughn in a "Man from UNCLE" rip-off; good supporting cast is the film's only salvation. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member (1967 Director: Jerry Thorpe) Well wonder who is NOT in this movie?! For eye candy? Karlheinz Bohm & of course Elke Sommers & Luciana Paluzzi & Felicia Farr. Musn't forget Boris Karloff as a villian.(review to follow) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best and most overlooked and sadly forgotten spy films of the 60s. This is the antithesis of the James Bond and Derek Flint superspy genre and much more in line with the John Le Carre style of dour, somewhat depressing and certainly cynical depictions of the espionage. The movie is somewhat convoluted, and even after numerous viewings the plot never quite reveals itself clearly, however the atmosphere generated by the story's intrigue and the hero's journey makes up for it. This is one of, if not the, best performance by Robert Vaughn. He's unshaven, lethargic and hungover throughout, slouched, in short the opposite of his charming, easy-going and suave persona as Napoleon Solo in "The Man from UNCLE." The film was shot on location in Venice and it is absolutely critical to the appeal of the film. Gorgeous photography is on display and it's a pleasure to see the actors there. And about the actors, the supporting cast is superb; a mix of American and European talent from the legendary Boris Karloff in his penultimate screen appearance to the gorgeous Italian bombshell Luciana Paluzzi in a small but memorable role.
