Audience Member Good old Captain Harlock in classic form. While I thought this might have been some movie edited together from footage from the TV series it turns ou that isn't entirely the case. It is the English dub version of a Japanese film which has been edited slightly and missing a few points. This may or may not be the reason parts of the film feel rushed or containing scenes where it seems as though we are supposed to have prior knowledge. Either way... it's pirates in space wearing futuristic versions of classic pirate outfits, the skull and crossbones, and ships that are part space ship part high seas galleon. Lots of fun but not nearly as extensive as the television series even if this is Captain Harlock's origin story (of sorts).
