Male nurse Jan (Charles Busch) is spending the summer taking care of the dying Mrs. A (Polly Bergen). The cranky old woman looks after her orphaned grandson, Gil (P.J. Verhoest), but she must soon send him off to live with other relatives due to her condition. As the three spend the summer months in New Jersey, Jan and Gil gradually let down their guards and become close. Jan unwittingly serves as a meaningful and necessary mentor to a young boy whose life is about to be completely changed.
