Wendy Ide Observer (UK) It’s inventive and atmospheric, just not entirely coherent. Rated: 3/5 Oct 23, 2022 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian If you are going to see one post-apocalyptic, low-tech French-Lithuanian-Belgian film in English this year with Eddie Marsan as the heavy, make sure it’s this one. Rated: 4/5 Oct 20, 2022 Full Review David Ehrlich indieWire A dramatically uneven but imaginatively vivid feat of post-apocalyptic world-building that flips the script on so many other stories like it. Rated: B- Sep 30, 2022 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers Despite the fact that this indie project lacked the financial resources of some of Hollywood’s big-budget post-apocalyptic, action-heavy films, the filmmakers exceed expectations in terms of world-building, stunning visual effects, and storytelling. Oct 26, 2023 Full Review Nuha Hassan Nuha Hassan It’s a fascinating film that discusses the reality and survival of the world through a much deeper lens with otherworldly visuals. Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Tara McNamara Common Sense Media Incredibly imaginative and empowering, this sci-fi tale with a memorable 13-year-old main character shows that intelligence and compassion are heroic qualities. Johnny Unique spin on post apocalyptic world Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/04/22 Full Review Frank K Amazing worldbuilding and lovely effects. Thought provoking. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/01/22 Full Review Harris M. A mesmerizingly beautiful piece of worldbuilding. A wholly original Sci-fi epic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/30/22 Full Review Jonathan K Before watching this I was noticing that across a lot of different websites it hovered around a 3/5 star rating among audiences. So I was curious to see why it wasn't better than that, because it seemed like the pieces would be there to make an intriguing post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama. The main culprit, as I might call it, is that it's a little slow. But more in a scene-to-scene sort of way than a story arc sort of way. I think the pacing within a scene as well as the scene length and cuts between scenes, gave it a dragging quality and didn't captivate my attention the way I think it could have. Because I think the material was solid; the delivery could have used a little spice. But also the music could have had a more emotional style to it and that would have helped. I barely even noticed that there was a score, and I'm generally very attuned to music in films. My main sense is -- and I hate to say it and rarely feel this way -- but this movie would've benefited from a dose of Hollywood blockbuster flair. A little more action and energy. With its distinctive story and solid performances it certainly could have been more engaging. The underwhelming execution doesn't do it justice. The whole is less than the sum of its parts. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/30/24 Full Review Alex M An eco-apocalypse story of boring proportions. At times, it felt more like an attempt at an art film with it's heavy emphasis on scenery and production than on engaging story or believable characters. It also did not explain aspects of the story and left loose ends. Some of the scenery was creative though (if also very icky) in its biological horror and that's why I don't give it one half star Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/18/24 Full Review Katie O Don’t waste your time watching this like I did, drags along for ages just to end so boringly, such a shame because it had potential.
