Audience Member As incoherent and unstructured as the subculture it celebrates, this hymn to the brief heyday of the VHS format is strictly for the tiny fan club that truly believes that schlock and bad acting are the cornerstone of the cinematic arts. Having said which, this passes the time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved this doc! A great exploration of what's lost when our VHS tapes are rewound for the last time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a great doc in to the decline of actual media and the effect it has on people and bussiness. Watch it you'll wanna go out and buy some vinyl and reserect the vhs player Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member I've got extremely fond memories of virtually living in video stores as a kid. Rentals, which were then all VHS, were such an adventure. You picked something, made the case to your parents (if you were a kid) that this tape - THIS one - could pass muster, and then, at last, you got home, put TOM AND HUCK into the VCR, and ran the experiment yourself. This documentary sets itself aside from the others in its class because it realizes this emotional connection to the VHS medium. Sure, it's incredibly invested in exploring the technical history behind the rise and fall of VHS, but it is also clear that the filmmakers' journey, here, is rife with emotion and love for their project. It is refreshing to see that catharsis embraced. Moreover, there's an excellent line-up of experts from actresses and actors to directors to retailers (just see the poster for a list of a few stars). I really can't recommend this enough, and I'm not alone. The film has picked up a series of awards and traveled to numerous festivals. Check it out! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I came across this doc while looking for something new to watch on Amazon Prime. I dug the cover art and the premise. I really liked this film. I'm a big Troma fan and there are a lot of references to Troma, b-movies and films who's history really helped pave the way for cinema, VHS, DVD, etc. The demise of physical media is a sad one and it's ironic that I streamed this but such is life. I like the pace and the filmmakers who put this together seem really passionate and relatable. I look forward to seeing hopefully more docs by this team. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Doesn't really touch on any useful knowledge of the VHS industry. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
