Anton Bitel Sight & Sound a virtual system where escapist fantasies are all just part of the game. Apr 21, 2017 Full Review Justin Lowe Hollywood Reporter Although the intent is clearly to create a somewhat disorienting visual experience, it's the consistently derivative plotline that's really at issue. Dec 17, 2016 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times [An] ambitious but leaden cautionary tale, which tries to pep things up with energetic fight scenes in the avatar worlds, but can't escape the wooden acting and zipless storytelling. Dec 15, 2016 Full Review Adam Patterson Film Pulse The solid visuals are stifled by the lackluster plot and performances, and I can't help but feel like my time would be better spent rewatching Existenz. Rated: 4/10 Nov 29, 2018 Full Review Jeffrey Lyles Lyles' Movie Files For a lower budget film, this is a very creative and enjoyable effort that plays out like a throwback sci-fi movie. Born K Nice visuals for a low budget cyberpunk neo-noir thriller set in a future Paris where virtual life is so real that most of the people prefer to live in the virtual worlds, getting sick and weaker in real life (they are the Connected that lives on several verses - or virtual worlds). Then are the hybrid ones part virtual, part real world and the natural world live ones - usually the government, criminal organizations and terrorist hybrid groups. The story is around (obviously) a detective that lives in a hybrid mode after the loss of his love in a cyber attack that actually killed her and lots of people, doing jobs for several organizations, while trying to solve what happened - and he has a real work hacker that get his live, well hacking. Her "soul" stays in the virtual world unaware of what happened outside - the cyber-terrorist organizations just want to "free" virtual world people from the addiction. Yes, the plot could be something real nice. Guy-Roger Duvert (the writer and director) actually does a nice work in this independent movie, but falls shorts on the cliches and TV-like story and acting (trying to do a pseudo-social class deeper movie) - the protagonist Mike Dopud is just terrible. The score gets half an star more due to the very nice visual effects on the futuristic Paris, on the costume design and gadgets. But I sort get why this one got so many awards and indications. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Matthew M Visually stunning! This movie is a treat to watch. Highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/02/23 Full Review Audience Member It's definitely in the same sci-fi noir/cyberpunk vein as both blade runner movies. The fight scenes are both poorly choreographed and poorly rehearsed. The dialogue and acting is cheesy in some places. I kept waiting for it to get better, but unfortunately it never does. I stopped watching after 40 min. I had better things to do. I would recommend that you watch the original Blade Runner, Blade Runner 2049, or even Alita: Battle Angel, instead, if you need a fix of sci-fi noir/cyberpunk. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/22 Full Review Audience Member So bad...it's good. You won't regret watching Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Considering I saw this movie in 2021, five years(?) after it was first released. I think the special effects still look good. The acting is good, as are the direction, and plot. I think some of the social topics explored give the movie more weight, without being "preachy". Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member It is with some unconscious prejudices towards French science-fiction that I approached this film. There is not the debauchery of means present in a Blade Runner (new version), but we gain in depth on the underlying problematic. If the gloomy atmosphere could have been better exploited, we can still be taken by the plot led by this unlikely hero with a haggard look. A special mention to the end, hardly imaginable in an American movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
