Synopsis
Grammy-winning composer Gilberto Gil leads filmmaker Andrucha Waddington to the northeastern section of Brazil. Through the rural communities there, Gil and Waddington experience the celebration of St. John, a Catholic festival featuring Brazilian music and dance. When not taking part in the festivities, which are more traditional than in other sections of Brazil, Waddington explores how people from this region struggle to make a living through agriculture in a harsh terrain.
