Gary Arnold Washington Post Truffaut evokes such a pale reflection of the prototypes he's copying that the results might be more accurately described as noir blah. Dec 3, 2012 Full Review Vincent Canby New York Times A bright, knowing, somewhat too affectionate variation on the sort of bloodless murder mysteries that were as much a staple of Hollywood production schedules in the 1930's and 40's as they were of the lending libraries of that era. Audience Member LOL, the funniest 1.5 hours for a Western comedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review chris k Truffaut's final film is worth watching; not because it is original or particularly inventive - it's not. It is worth watching because it is entertaining, starring some great actors and can be at times very interesting. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Pour Fanny Ardant bien sûr! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member An entertaining evening's viewing - light-hearted and undemanding. A romantic film with plenty of dialogue and just enough action. The first scene was confusing, and I felt I should have liked to have seen it again later in the film. As a 1983 film, I'm not sure being in black and white added anything, but presumably it was harping back to earlier American films. As four adults with a wide age range and both genders, we all enjoyed the film. There were several parts that made me laugh Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Confidential Report is the closest any filmmaker came to capturing Hitchcock without straight ripping him off, and proves a timeless blend of noir and the thriller genre that's slick and delightful. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Jean-Louis Trintignant is accused of murdering a man who was having an affair with his wife and enlists his secretary's help to clear his name. There's something about late period Truffaut that just does not resonate with me. This is obviously a Hitchcock homage, and Truffaut knows his Hitchcock, so why didn't I find this particularly engaging or really believe any of the character interactions. The whole time I was watching it, I wished it was a Chabrol film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
