Virgo V Here are some positive reviews of War and Peace, Part 1: Andrei Bolkonsky (1966): Visuals: The scenery, period detail and cinematography are stunning and give a sense of time and place. Music score: The music score is emotionally powerful and beautiful and helps to set the story in Russia. Script: The script is rich in detail, thoughtful and mostly true to Tolstoy's style. Characters: The characters don't come over as caricatures. War scenes: The war scenes are gut wrenching. The story is set in early 19th-century Russia and explores themes of war, power, history and historiography. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/03/25 Full Review Audience Member Compared with the BBC production in 2014, this version is a theatrically heavy and foreshortened. I gave it up after 45 minutes. It is hard to endure. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
