Ben Sachs Chicago Reader True to its title, this energetic Hong Kong comedy trades primarily in off-color gags, yet its tone, like that of John Waters's films, is so playful and inclusive that it's unlikely to offend anyone. Nov 21, 2012 Full Review Jeff Shannon Seattle Times "Vulgaria" is certainly crude, but most of its amusing vulgarity is discreetly held off screen. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 4, 2012 Full Review Michael O'Sullivan Washington Post A broad, cartoonish -- and decidedly filthy -- satire of moviemaking is as sophomoric as they come. Rated: 2/4 Sep 28, 2012 Full Review Anton Bitel Projected Figures This scabrous behind-the-scenes commentary on the Hong Kong Category III sex comedy certainly lives up to its title - but amidst all the animal pussy-eating and candy-assisted cock-eating, there is also plenty of postmodern cake-eating. Sep 23, 2017 Full Review Edmund Lee Screen International Having spent much of his career filtering good humour through very bad taste, writer-director Pang Ho-cheung delivers arguably his naughtiest picture to date with a pitch-black comedy. Mar 30, 2016 Full Review Kam Williams myfilmblog A transparent, bait-and-switch disappointment strictly for suckers. Rated: 1/4 Oct 13, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member It's very funny if you are conversant in Cantonese, because a major plot device relies heavily on a very particular mispronounciation, or perhaps a misunderstanding due to a difference in pronounciation by someone from another province. It also helps if you are somewhat involved in the production industry, and you'll appreciate a lot of the observations, some subtle, some outrageous. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member It'll be funnier if you understand the language. Anyhow, Vulgaria was as manipulative as it's vulgar... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member hahaha, loved! peppered with lotsa sexual innuendos, most of which were smart, hilarious. you must, must, wait for the credits to roll ... icing on top of the cake awaits! bloody entertaining. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Cleverly filmed and acted. Very funny and very entertaining. Not for the usual family audience. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Its a brilliant comedy masquerading as a smut film. With all the sexual talk there isn't a drop of nudity which might disappoint some but I thought it was very well done. The characters are what they are and its done well. Hilarious! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Intelligent and silly, mostly silly. I fancy some Popping Candy now. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
