Byron T My only issue with this interesting thriller is the voice over narration. To me, this is no routine whodunnit, but a decent mystery involving nothing short of national security. True, the case-cracking technology shown in the film is now hopelessly dated, but I've no doubt it was cutting edge in 1948. Yes, this movie coincided with the McCarthy Hearings, but with that horrible era now the distant past, we are reminded there will always enemies of freedom, sometimes from within—even from inside a former administration. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/24 Full Review nick s The acting wasn't bad. The movie had a solid storyline and good tension. If you're into noir films I would say this is above average. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Dated narration and flag-waving sentimentality are its drawbacks. The attraction is Raymond Burr (always good in noir) as a bearded killer commie. Slightly above average over all. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review deke p Do read the synopses to know why this was a timely & interesting subject: spies and traitors trying to steal American nuclear secrets. Small wonder lefties give it a low rating. But the 'documentary' style of that time, with the occasional off-screen narrator, is a bit off-putting by today's expectations. All in all, there were some very suspenseful and compelling aspects.
