I had a Sparks phase in high school. Back then, I was a little more religious and had a child-like fantasy of what "true love" was supposed to look like. Watching this movie as an adult I found it to be incredibly cheesy. Mandy Moore was overacting and over annunciating all of her words. The "bad boy" image was pushed on the views heavily without really giving much to go off of. Quickly falling for the girl who specifically tells him NOT to fall for her. Chaning his life and dropping his friends for the girl who has cancer...finally seeing the light. It was all feeling slightly desperate, over acted, and overall, not well delivered. I will admit that I enjoyed the soundtrack.

This movie is a classic. Mandy Moore is hard not to fall in love with. Well written and thoughtful. I'm a man who eats steak and watches football. This is one of the best love stories ever. I cried like Richard Simmons at a fat camp. Become a sparker like me.

I was going to give it a second mark out of ten from pure pity but no, I couldn’t. This is an astonishingly bad film. AWFUL acting, the corniest soundtrack, staggeringly ridiculous plot, terrible special effects. The screenplay, jeez, is this a joke? Tried to be emotional but it was all so preposterous that nothing about it could be taken seriously. Then an abrupt and eye rolling ending. Terrible terrible terrible. Watched on DVD.

Beautiful movie. Cannot believe critics called it "syrupy". This is real life for some people. Has the world become this jaded? Like all his friends. Disappointing, but unfortunately, not that surprised. Love the faith based storyline. We need more like it.
