Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald The second half is gripping. There's less time for talk, and the Smith brothers give us a superb sense of the fearful power of this landscape. Maybe that was the point all along: nature just keeps on giving and taking. Rated: 3/5 Apr 6, 2018 Full Review Noel Murray AV Club The mountain backdrops are stunning, but the movie's real draw is its understanding of how children pick up more from their parents than their skeptical, self-pitying moms and dads ever imagine. Dec 14, 2017 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Punch Drunk Critics Walking Out has an effect: Bomer is doing something different and he and Wiggins have believable father-son chemistry; the setting is gorgeous and desolate; and the hero's journey narrative is comfortingly familiar. Rated: 3/5 Oct 12, 2017 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies The film’s title makes the impending peril obvious, but the buildup of the two main characters and their strained relationship gives form to the danger once it hits. Rated: 4/5 Aug 21, 2022 Full Review David Bax Battleship Pretension The Smiths look deeper, questioning what strength and resilience really mean. They are attempting to survive the great outdoors, yes, but they are also dependent on it for sustenance. Dec 11, 2020 Full Review Laura Davis One Room With A View Smith and Smith demand nuanced performances from the central pair which results in a credible story but nothing that hasn't been done before. SIAN M This film is visually beautiful, but it's hard not to get annoyed by how the deeply flawed actions of the father are almost presented as endearing or admirable, instead of fatally stupid. Ultimately the hubris and arrogance of the father landed them in a situation that could have very easily led to death of his son, himself, or both. During one of the scenes the son hallucinates / has a dream about his father telling him that all the mountains he can see belong to him. It's exactly this lack of humility and lack of perspective displayed by the father that leads to their situation. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Bree V I feel like this is a film that you would probably connect with better if you had the father-son bonding experiences of hunting as a youngster. I (being female and also not having a hunting dad) did not, so the first half was pretty hard to get through. But after everything goes wrong, and the young man finds his strength, I started to appreciate it. The way they showed the two of them leaned on each others' opposing strengths was touching. The scenery was totally spectacular and showcased just how unforgiving the terrain can be. If you're looking for a hollywood disaster movie, this ain't it. But if you're looking for something with a bit more thought and a bit less action, you'll like this one. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review filip n It was amazing movie the story in the beginning is a bit slower but it's more relying on the chemistry of father son characters and they are doing that greatly both characters are build up perfectly that viewer can really stick to them and care about the ending even when it's pretty obvious how will it end. It's making the movie even more in touch with viewers emotions Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/12/24 Full Review Timothy D Walking out is not original, but it is beautifully acted and directed. This film focuses on paternal relationships as a father struggles to connect with his son before the roles dramaticly reverse half way in. The relationship and the trauma of their situation make a thoughtful impression when the movie ends. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Audience Member I thought it was a pretty accurate movie 2.9 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/28/23 Full Review Julia L Simple storyline, low budget, the move unfolds the touching relationship between a father and a son in the face of life and death. At the end of the movie, the last whistle broke the last line of defense of my lacrimal gland. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
