Part of the "Why We Fight" series, Frank Capra's propaganda film argues that the United States is resilient and its population diverse, and that the initial settlements and the Revolutionary War have given way to a nation of many ethnic groups. It examines popular opinion prior to World War II -- when Americans favored isolationism -- and its shift after the attack on Pearl Harbor. It also makes the case that national security interests require America to help defeat the Axis powers.

Audience Member The entire series is wrapped up here, as Capra recaps the story of how the war began and lead up to Pearl Harbor, but all told from the U.S. perspective, seeing what America did while events unfolded in Europe and Asia, and sometimes what they didn't do, and why it is important to fight now and stop the aggression of the Axis powers. It was an interesting look of how the War was presented to soldiers about to start fighting. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Good, but the series sorta runs out of steam at this point. The flag-waving is a little bit tiresome in the first half, but then it takes a surprisingly critical look at the American awareness of the war, and the delayed action of their participation. It's perhaps not as critical as it should be, but a welcome change nonetheless. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
