Wesley Morris Boston Globe [An] extremely well-made documentary. Feb 4, 2019 Full Review Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune Cohen's unusually lucid documentary plays against type: It dares to see the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebel leader Issa Sesay as something like human, rather than an embodiment of pure evil. Rated: 3.5/4 Feb 4, 2019 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh Playback:stl ...virtually gives you an insider's seat in the courtroom and lets you experience some of the ambiguities inherent in what at first seems to be an open-and-shut case. Rated: 7/10 Oct 29, 2010 Full Review Cynthia Fuchs PopMatters Again and again, this remarkable documentary raises questions about recording per se, with shots of the courtroom camera and TV screens. Mediated and multiply framed, truth remains elusive. Oct 4, 2010 Full Review Louis Proyect rec.arts.movies.reviews A powerful look behind what amounted to a kangaroo court war crimes tribunal funded and prosecuted by the USA, a country with blood on its hands. Audience Member 11/19/15 Netflix War Don Don (the war is over) continues the tradition of documentaries being a favorite genre. They educate, illuminate and bring compelling stories that other media do not. This is another example of a poor African country being ravaged by a guerrilla war full of bad actors and atrocities. Seems like the story of practically every country on the continent. Is Sesay a war criminal or a hero, their is a verdict but the film makers also let you decide as they show his trial. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member This documentary doesn't give you easy answers, and it doesn't turn a nuanced and complex situation into a soundbite. Absolutely worth watching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Grim, unflinching, yet oddly hopeful. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
