What to Know

Critics Consensus

Warcraft has visual thrills to spare, but they -- and director Duncan Jones' distinctive gifts -- are wasted on a sluggish and derivative adaptation of a bestselling game with little evident cinematic value.

nammaw I think it needed more action and no so boring but on the other hand there were people sitting behind us talking through the move the whole time. I couldn't hear the movie too well. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Chris K Video games don't make good movies. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Audience Member The acting is great, scenes absolutely beautiful, story leaves you wanting more. As someone whose favorite movie is LOTR, this definitely belongs up there with my most favorite movies. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Luther B Despite a consolidated negative attitude from critics towards it (which perhaps contributes to maintaining its reputation as a failure), its success at the box office cannot be overlooked. Overall you need to watch it at least a couple of times to grasp its real potential. The plot, not trivial in the fantasy genre, perhaps exaggerates in wanting to present multiple elements, each deserving of necessary in-depth analysis if taken one at a time. We see TV series that are much less daring in their plots, producing endless seasons of episodes, while Warcraft has condensed all its suggestions into two hours at the cinema. If Jones and the screenwriters were to blame, it is that they wanted at all costs to costrain the plot into a movie and not a series where every single minute of the film could easily have generated an episode. Overall, the criticism this time did not dare go beyond the simple facade. It's a great product and I can't wait for the sequel to come out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Bill G Enjoyed this; where (when) is the sequel? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Sebastian L Making games and making movies are two very different things. Maybe Blizzard didn't realize or they didn't care, but Warcraft the movie is like watching a very long video game cinematic. It sort of looks like a movie but not quite, and it needs the gameplay to immerse you in the story. The problem here is that the immersive part never comes.
