Chuck Bowen Slant Magazine We Go Way Back is another tale of a twentysomething struggling to get a grip on their life. Rated: 2/4 May 9, 2011 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times More successful at conjuring atmosphere than at plot, "We Go Way Back" is nicely acted but frustratingly slight. Rated: 3/5 Apr 28, 2011 Full Review Michael Atkinson Village Voice For all of the film's preciousness, the pungent notion of having your young-teen self gazing in horrified disappointment at the adult you've failed to become is as fresh a thematic undertow as it is disquieting. Apr 26, 2011 Full Review Marshall Fine Hollywood & Fine For the first half, you can kid yourself that these witty sidetrips are what the film is about. But then Shelton gets "serious," and it dissolves into arty murk. May 2, 2011 Full Review Bill White Seattle Post-Intelligencer First time director Lynn Shelton breaks too many narrative laws for it to work as a feature. Audience Member This movie was just too weird to me. Not at all what I expected. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Ever take a chance on an online offering with shitty reviews that you felt an impulse to watch, anyway? Usually, me, neither. But tonight I did: two hours ago, when I clicked on the 2011 film, "We Go Way Back." My walkaway assessment? I don't what film the Rotten Tomatoes pro critic (who cursed this gem with a 43 rating 9 years ago), but it sure wasn't the brilliant, captivating story that I just fell in love with, mere minutes ago. Solid, soulful performances by Amber Hubert and Maggie Brown as the film's protagonist, Kate, as both woman and child. Thank you, writer-director Lynn Shelton, for a debut masterpiece! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member It doesn't always work, but the several times it does make it worth the experience Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member it seems pretty good, i think i may like it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member We sit and we type, and we stare at our screens. We all have to wonder what this possibly means. With our mouse we roam through the rooms in a maze Looking for something or someone as we sit in a daze. We chat with each other. We type all our woes. Small groups we do form and gang up on our foes. We wait for somebody to type out our name. We want recognition, but it is always the same. We give kisses and hugs, and sometimes flirt In PMs we chat deeply and reveal why we hurt. We do form friendships - but - why we don't know, But some of these friendships will flourish and grow. Why is it on screen we can be so bold? Telling our secrets that have never been told. Why is it we share the thoughts in our mind With those we can't see as though we were blind? The answer is simple. It is as clear as a bell. We all have our problems and need someone to tell. We can't tell real people, but tell someone we must. So we turn to the 'puter and to those we can trust. Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains They are friends without faces and odd little names. A world without a friend, what would it be It would be like a world without water something you need Friends are like glass, once broken, they are hard to fix Keep your friends, as you would keep your water FRIENDS .... are people who care Who don't cry or shout when you ask them to share who try to comfort you when you're sad who share secrets and never tell Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
