Horror fan 4 What a great mystery thriller. Loved the characters and story. The Cousin Charles character is great. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review Hugo S After the deaths of their parents by poisoning, two sisters live with their uncle in total isolation in the family's state mansion. The girls live tormented by the memories of the tragedy and also by the hostile inhabitants of the town. Their routine is severely changed when they receive the visit of a cousin, whose presence reveals to be quite problematic. The family's dynamics become increasingly toxic and tense, resulting in a catastrophe with unexpected proportions. "We Have Always Lived In The Castle" focuses on a family drama that haunts the surviving members in unique and strange ways. The movie is beautifully filmed with plenty of style and substance! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/20/24 Full Review Ido K I kept waiting for a twist that never came… Acting was good, cinematography is nice, two of the leads are very easy on the eyes. But when the film ended it felt to me like a completely pointless film. I know this is based on a novel so I wonder if the novel did a better job with this story. I can only assume that the answer is yes. I can't recommend this. Wasn't worth the watch. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Heather D What an obscure, strange movie. I loved every second of this little weirdo. If you are the type who needs things spelled out for you or a defined plot, then this probably isn't the movie for you. It is a very ambiguous film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review John O Spoilers: Nice ensemble, always liked Taissa (and sister Vera), Alexandra, Crispin, Sebastian, Paula, with Michael Douglas, who does know quality, as EP. The two main questions are: Is cuz gonna walk off with all their dough, and which sister is crazier and which a real killer? It meanders, a bit too much maybe, around Taissa's superstitions, burying stuff, mousey and diffident around people, and finally 'round-the-bend delusional, seeing dead Mom and Dad out in the trees sitting on chairs, talking to her -- Mom cold, Dad chatty. As Dr. Freud would say: Tell me about your muzzah, please. I suppose after the suspense of who did and is doing what, we have a piece about survival. These two sisters who love each other have survived a Dad who was evil toward Alexandra, she finally says, as we can imagine how, this gorgeous woman, though she was acquitted of killing Mom, Dad and leaving the uncle, Crispin, in a wheelchair, he too, pretty nutty. Seems Dad was hated by the townsfolk as a greedy and brutal employer/boss. As local mean boys and men snipe at Taissa, in town to get provisions on Tuesdays. So we had the broad stokes of how this rich family living in "a castle" on a hill, sort of rubbing it in to the workers down the valley, had itself fall apart due to bad behavior. Cain and Abel, anyone? But survive. That is what Taissa and Alexandra did. The castle, their refuge, which they rarely left after Mom and Dad were offed, how they fantasized about the moon and whatever, taking them away from the realities they had lived through, making them happy they had each other and their badly damaged castle at the end, Taissa finally smiling. Cuz, the whole family hardly stable, let his greed and lust do him in, and we knew that the Italy snow globe on the kitchen table would take out pretention cuz Sebastian. Taissa had done in the others, and finally cuz, whom she buried in the woods, her a burier from way back. I suppose we learn we can survive about anything, even if it leaves us nuttier than fruitcakes, and homicidal maniacs, or in serious denial. Again, calling Dr. Freud! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/29/23 Full Review steve d A mixed bag kept entreating because of the able cast. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Roxana Hadadi Pajiba The film adaptation of We Have Always Lived in the Castle understands Shirley Jackson's novel as a tale of male abuse and female rage.
