Wally Hammond Sight & Sound Something of an exemplary documentary on the effects of combat on three individuals with experience of one specific war. Jul 31, 2018 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard Grigsby's quiet film doesn't try for polemic but simply tells what looks very much like the unalloyed truth. Rated: 4/5 Mar 29, 2013 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian This sad, unhurriedfilm is like a short story by Larry McMurtry. Rated: 4/5 Mar 28, 2013 Full Review Andrew Latimer CineVue Crucially, We Went to War ponders the coldness of combat, but perhaps more fundamentally, challenges why we tolerate it. Rated: 4/5 Feb 13, 2019 Full Review Jennifer Tate ViewLondon A tender and poetic documentary, which revisits a group of veterans as they discuss their emotional scars left by the Vietnam War, We Went to War is extremely powerful, thanks to its personal interviews and strong and compassionate direction. Rated: 4/5 Mar 27, 2013 Full Review George Bass Total Film Forty years after interviewing fresh-faced Vietnam vets for his 1970 documentary I Was A Soldier, British filmmaker Michael Grigsby returns to Texas to find his subjects pushing 70 and still living with PTSD. In 2012 Grigsby's non fiction feature, 'We Went to War' was released. Co-authored with creative producer Rebekah Tolley, the film is a follow up to Grigsby's film, I Was a Soldier (1970), and returns to the stories of the three Vietnam veterans of the earlier film: David, Dennis and Lamar, forty years after their return from combat to their homes in the heartlands of Texas.. its got a good soundtrack throughout this movie......i think that this is such a really sad movie 2 watch as its a real-life movie 2 watch its a really sad movie 2 watch but its such a really well directed movie.....i think that this is a very underrated documentary movie 2 watch but its such a really sad movie 2 watch its got a great cast throughout this movie i think that this is such a really sad movie 2 watch but its such a great documentary movie 2 watch......
