Rated: B- Apr 28, 2008 Full Review Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy Doesn't ask for much investment and doesn't repay close engagement. Insofar as it meets that goal without seeming stupid or cloying, it's a smashing success. Rated: 7/10 Jan 15, 2008 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This was okay but Shirley Temple made enough better movies that this wasn't a "keeper"in the end. I still have at least a half dozen of her other films which, I thought, were far more appealing. They were also shorter, too. At 100 minutes, this is too long a movie for the normal Temple fare. It was her longest movie as a child actor. The major fault, which also involves the time, is that is simply wasn't that interesting. It has its cute moments as all Temple films did and the cinematography was good. The fact John Ford directed it may have something to do with the better-than-average photography. I also enjoyed Victor McLaughlen in here. He played the best character. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review kevin w John Ford directed this delightful yet curious look at Brit colonialism starring, of all people, Shirley Temple. She plays the daughter of a widowed soldier's wife who's granddad (the formidable C. Aubrey Smith) is the head honcho of an outpost in India. Vic McLaglan plays post sargeant who takes a shine to the imp (what else) and the two share great chemistry as she plays at being a soldier and he indulges her every whim. But in the final reel things get serious and some of the realities of colonialism get air time, adding weight and muscle to what was a breezy walk in Mayfair Park. I was surprised: "this is a Shirley Temple movie???" Yes it is, only directed by macho film guru John Ford. Superlative. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member When director John Ford got this assignment, he was not too thrilled about working with a little girl as the lead actress. But when they started shooting, he was completely impressed by her acting chops, dedication to the film and bravery. Once scene called for her to run out of the way of stampeding horses. Naturally, Fox told Ford to use a stand-in, but when Shirley found out, she told Ford that she could do it herself. She did, and that totally won Ford over. By the way, the kid could really act! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review ashley h Wee Willie Winkie is a cute movie. It is about Priscilla Williams who is a young girl traveling with her mother to join her paternal grandfather, a British army colonel, at the post he commands in northern India. Shirley Temple and Victor McLaglen give amazing performances. The screenplay is well written. John Ford did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the adventure. Wee Willie Winkie is a must see. This is sensational family entertainment. It has all of the innocent fun of a Shirley Temple picture, combined with the masterful direction of John Ford. The chemistry between Victor McLaglen and Shirley Temple is wonderful. Every scene they have together is just perfect. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
