Five married couples discover, to their shock, that they're not really married! The justice of the peace who presided over their nuptials didn't have a valid license. When they learn the news five years later, each couple must decide if they will remarry. Radio hosts Steve (Fred Allen) and Ramona (Ginger Rogers) couldn't harbor more animosity toward each other; but does that mean they should go their separate ways? Annabel, recently crowned Mrs. Mississippi, has more of a semantic problem.

Bob Thomas Associated Press We're Not Married is a clever idea carried out with mixed results. Jul 24, 2019 Full Review Nell Dodson Russell Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder Another good idea gone rambling. Jan 14, 2022 Full Review Clyde Gilmour Maclean's Magazine Five separate stories are wrapped up in this one, and some of them don t click. It s worth seeing, though, if only to enjoy Fred Allen and Ginger Rogers as professional lovey-doveys. Mark C Interesting to see and memorable because Marilyn is in it - usually wearing a swimsuit. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/04/24 Full Review Jarrod R Overall, an interesting concept, albeit far-fetched, but it provided some necessary laughs and misunderstandings along the way. What could possibly go wrong if you found that you suddenly weren't married? We followed the stories of five such couples, and the twists and turns did they go through. The most compelling story was the final one featuring Mitzi Gaynor and Eddie Bracken, who many GenXers might know better as Roy Wally, the owner of Wally World from the movie Vacation. Their story seem to have the biggest stakes, which provided just the proper amount of emotional impact to blend with the comedy. All told, there were many fine performances throughout, but the transitions and connective tissue was a bit disjointed. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Steve D No one is given anything to do. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Dumb movie. Vignettes. Fred Allen, Ginger Rogers, Zsa Zsa Gabor. 5 couples find out they aren't really married. Entertaining Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/14/19 Full Review Audience Member A fun farce, as five unsuspecting couples discover they were never legally married, so they have to decide all over again if the trouble is worth it. Smooth directing by Edmund Goulding to nicely tie together the five stories. Ginger Rogers and Fred Allen are my favourites of a fine cast.
