What should have been a suspenseful and unsettling experience instead feels flat, underdeveloped, and disconnected for most of its runtime. The screenplay is the film’s biggest weakness. The story never fully pulls the audience in, and instead of building suspense, it often feels like it is stalling. Scenes drag without meaningful progression, and the pacing causes the movie to lose momentum repeatedly. Rather than escalating tension, the film constantly feels like it is collapsing under weak execution. There are hints of stronger ideas beneath the surface, and at times it seems like the movie could have developed into something far more effective. The first 45 minutes is one girl telling an insanely long, drawn out story that goes nowhere and the girl listening barely reacts. Then it’s one incredibly long, slow take after another of someone walking slowly down a hallway and doing things no person would ever do…and that go nowhere. Throw in some not so great jump scares, waaaay too many dreams within a dream, within a dream sequences and a lack of any real explanation of anything…and you have this movie. I watched it on my iPad during the day and was still super scared. Just a constant feeling of impending doom that never lets up. Highly recommend (this is a 100% real review.
