Critics Consensus

An unapologetically schlocky horror flick, Werewolves more or less scratches the genre itch without ever becoming the howling good time it could've been.

Leslie Felperin Guardian Once they are done transforming, the masks or make-up or whatever the actors are clad in are so ineffectual they end up looking like a bunch of underlit extras in Halloween costumes recreating The Purge while howling. Rated: 2/5 Jan 14, 2025 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Variety It’s not a good movie, but it’s a tight little time passer. Frank Grillo, who’s at the center of it (playing a ripped bruiser who is also… a molecular biologist!), has a way of making any pulp movie better. Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting It’s the type of movie that delivers exactly what’s promised: a whole lot of snarling, drooling werewolves. Rated: 3/5 Dec 7, 2024 Full Review Jorge Loser Espinof ...this one stands out for its truly remarkable special effects transformations and animatronics for the lycanthropic creatures, a combination that, although with obvious limitations, is an appetizing date for lovers of the genre. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Jan 16, 2025 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online Although Werewolves boasts a gleefully silly premise and admirable practical effects and creature design, its proclivity to take itself too seriously and frequent use of distracting filmmaking choices causes it to underwhelm. Rated: 2/5 Jan 15, 2025 Full Review Kat Hughes THN Frank Grillo is perfectly cast in this mash-up of The Purge and werewolves. Rated: 3/5 Jan 14, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Joey M Fun, campy 'B' movie. Elvira would B proud. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Cynthia Great actors, and storyline could of had more to it. jumping from scene to location. Costumes needed improvement but entertaining. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Vivian I really enjoyed this movie. I think they did a great job on it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/23/24 Full Review Les Parker Pros: Frank Grillo is a good action hero and the money shot of his physique was worth it. LOL And his Werewolf-themed one-liners were on point in a funny way. Can’t remember if there was a “Big Bad Wolf” one or not, but I would’ve liked one. Practical effects Werewolves, decent gore and setting/suspense aren’t too bad. Characterization is not too bad in theory, execution was hampered slightly perhaps because of a low budget. It’s like The Purge with Werewolves. Cons: Constricted by low budget, felt like it still could’ve gone harder than it did considering how Terrifier movies are even more low budget and do more material and content stuff and even better gore . (I hate those movies but still) Story was a bit off in some ways to me. Some acting is a little hammy and just “fair” to okay. And it’s The Purge with werewolves feels like a detriment to Frank Grillo because he starred in those movies, too. But I’d watch it again. Gave my imagination stuff to process and mull over, so that was fun and cool. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Juan The fake lens flare filter was distracting. It had the worse regard of ammo amount I think I ever saw in a movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/17/24 Full Review Victoria Lmao I only saw it for free because of fandango club. Not good. I was on my phone majority of the time 😂😂 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/17/24 Full Review Read all reviews
