JK Sooja Common Sense Media The writing, acting, and tone of this film are all inconsistent and often quite poor, but the intention in West Michigan is clearly genuine and loving. Rated: 2/5 May 5, 2021 Full Review Frank Wilkins Reel Reviews Heartbreak, shock, relief, hope, and joy are all on tap as this lazy little tale meanders through the side roads and trail heads of all the things that make each us who we are. Rated: 4/5 Apr 30, 2021 Full Review Monique Jones Just Add Color Even though the film clocks in at an hour and 16 minutes, West Michigan features lived-in performances that stick in your mind after the film is over. Apr 16, 2021 Full Review Carissa Pavlica TV Fanatic Riley Warmoth transitions his off- and on-screen duties elegantly, crafting a tale that is charming, warm, and beautiful. Daniel G Such a great story line in true life in a hard time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a beautiful movie featuring some of the gorgeous landscape found in northern Michigan, and the story is relatable: Teen despair that is overcome by the unconditional love of family and friends; darkness that is dispelled by a ray of hope. "West Michigan" could be invaluable in opening a dialogue with a teen or young adult in crisis as an example of how things really do get better, without being sappy or unrealistic. I would recommend every parent of teens watch it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member West Michigan takes takes you on scenic ride with siblings "Hannah" and "Charlie". through the beautiful and iconic locations around western Michigan. While "Hannah" attempts to find herself before she loses herself, Charlie attempts to connect with his sister and get a glimpse behind the walls she builds to keep him out. Hannah's character is complex. She desires to be seen yet she is guarded. After she courageously exposes her vulnerability there is a shame that follows. There's a struggle between how she sees herself and how she wants to be seen. As strongly as you can feel Hannah hold her anguish, you can feel her release her insecurities and fly. She gets lost and discovers herself. This story leaves you begging the characters to see that real courage is in the vulnerability we so often fail to show and understand. Riley Warmoth's performance as "Charlie" is phenomenal. The story leaves you wanting more, thinking deeper and emotional. A true passion project that will no doubt be a spring board for future masterpieces ahead. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member I really enjoyed this film. The soundtrack/music was exceptional, moved the film along beautifully and had me looking up these indie artists. A beautiful look at the state of Michigan and a realistic view of anxiety and depression at a pivotal time in the lead character, Hannah's life. Riley Warmoth's debut film is smart, witty and honest. His portrayal of Charlie is realistic and I like the chemistry between Charlie and Hannah. Chloe Ray Warmoth, as the protagonist, shows great talent, range, and star power. The real life brother/sister team have created a not perfect but beautiful film that is sure to resonate with most anyone as we all have had bouts of depression or have known someone struggling. Finding hope and beauty in nature, family, and friends, as well as seeking help is a great message for all of us. Highly recommend this indie film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I admire the filmmaking. Feels like a regular movie but done on a shoestring. Good for Riley Warmoth. The principle actors Riley and Chloe Ray Warmoth were quite good, as well. By its nature "West Michigan" is a chatty film. But, in the scene where Hannah stumbles on three campers the film became, simultaneously, both silly and boring. I bailed. You could say reviewing a film you haven't seen the end of - is not fair. The point is, by then, the film which I had started to watch with an abundance of good will - due to its stellar reviews and admirable production - had worn out its welcome. Clearly the Warmoths are talented. Next time a different writer? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member What a stunning movie!! This movie is filled with beautiful scenery and a great overall message. Highly recommend watching this movie!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
