Michael L An understated film, which could quite easily have been made as a histrionic melodrama. I felt that there was a consistent tension throughout, which kept me hooked. One thing I found strange was that the many (charming and once very well known) songs heard during the film seemed to me to be from the 1890s to 1920s. I guess they may have used them because they were out of copyright…? Of course, these songs would still have been sung at weddings et cetera in 1960…and many had been revived during the 40s/50s by artists such as Doris Day and Bing and Gary Crosby. It just seems strange that no contemporary songs were used. A very enjoyable and interesting film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
