A tornado of unbridled sexual desire is unleashed when a free spirited seductress sets her sights on a reclusive playwright. Wet Woman in the Wind highlights the id in its stream of consciousness tale. Having a character who overturns the inhibitions of all that cross her path with wild abandon allows this striking entry in Nikkatsu's Roman Porno Reboot series to transcend its sexploitation raison d'être. Director Akihiko Shiota cuts to the chase, taking advantage of the subgenre's sparse requirements: a sex scene every ten minutes with a total running time no longer than 80 minutes. What ensues is a gleefully anarchic plot that explores the human psyche through sexuality within a psychodrama that is as hilarious as it is titillating. Featuring a tour de force performance by Yuki Mamiya as the eponymous agent provocateur, Wet Woman in the Wind is a "hugely enjoyable film -- and often, partly because of its relative demureness, a fairly arousing one, with female pleasure and male discomfiture foremost on the menu" (Screen International).

David Stratton The Australian As a nostalgic pastiche of what appears to be a quintessentially Japanese tradition of erotic cinema, Wet Women in the Wind is certainly a curiosity. Rated: 3/5 Jul 20, 2018 Full Review Chuck Bowen Slant Magazine Shiota understands a pivotal strand of the American screwball comedy; that it's often a male fantasy of relief from male expectations, hence the dominant female charters who sort out the men's neuroses. Rated: 3/4 Nov 18, 2017 Full Review Eric Kohn IndieWire If Nikkatsu keeps this up, the studio may have its hands on the most exciting new franchise out there: art porn with an emphasis on the art. Nov 18, 2017 Full Review Michael Talbot-Haynes Film Threat What impressed me about Wet Woman In The Wind, besides one of the best titles you could ever hope to see on a marquee, was the complexity that Shiota injects into the minimalist storyline. Rated: 8.5/10 Sep 29, 2025 Full Review Pieter-Jan Van Haecke Psychocinematography Shiota Akihito's narrative shows (...) that only women can go beyond (...) manly silliness and that, in a battle of eroticism, only women can be the victor." Jan 11, 2021 Full Review Harris Dang easternKicks.com Wet Woman in the Wind is a hugely enjoyable entry in the Roman Porno Reboot with committed performances, a witty script that shrewdly comments on sexual politics and assured direction from Akihiko Shiota. william d Great title, but not a particularly interesting nor particularly erotic film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Brushing the fence of soft porno, this flick amuses and exasperates. Shiori is a real pain in the neck. Her borderline behavior and excessive extravagance to get Youske's attention makes the battleground of the whole plot. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
