Audience Member Fun "Bittysploitation" picture. A nice game of cat and mouse between Geraldine Page and Ruth Gordon. Geraldine Page really plays a wonderfully nasty character and Ruth Gordon is a delight, as always. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member 6.2/10, my review: http://wp.me/p1eXom-2pt Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member I hadn't seen this since I watched it as a child in the 70s and I have to say I really enjoyed seeing it again. Although not at all scary it is still very entertaining and slightly comedic. Its also an interesting window into how much the horror/thriller genre of film has changed in the almost 50 years since this was made. Whilst this is less well known and therefore less popular than Hitchcock's 'Psycho', in my opinion it definitely deserves the same "classic" status. Perhaps even cult status. Geraldine Page is wonderful as a neurotic, reclusive, cocktail drinking psychopath. I love the way she laughs after she has notched up a new victim. Ruth Gordon (Minnie Castevet in Rosemary's baby) is equally good as the ballsy Mrs Dimmock aka Aunt Alice. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Mrs Marrable cons her elderly maids out of their savings then murders them. When Aunt Alice's friend goes missing, it's up to her to find out what has happened. Whatever Happened to Aunt Alice serves as another one of the psycho bitty genre popular at the time (thanks to Whatever Happened to Baby Jane and Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte). The acting was superb, it was awesome to see two old ladies fight in such a brutal manner. The twists were great too, complemented by the darkly humorous tone, Whatever Happened to Aunt Alice is a film worthy of viewing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member TV grade film but don't let that stop you watching this because of the stellar performance of Geraldine Page. Ruth Gordon comes into the action after a half hour and is great as well. Watch this one for these two veteran actresses! A lot of bodies pile up in this one and the delightful Geraldine Page is genius at whatever role given her. Here role in romance tale Dear Heart with Glenn Ford was precious. This role was dastardly dark. She can do it all. We don't see any police in this one even though we are asked to believe several murders of hired women have occurred. We see the first murder and then one a bit later. A terrible distraction, for me at least, was the romance between Alice's nephew, or some such relation, and the new neighbor of Page's. It doesn't really have a thing to do with the murder plot that Alice is trying to uncover. Alice investigates the murders played by Ruth Gordon Don't question too much, just accept the fact this is one crazy lady who is driven to her own security at the expense of her elderly hired homekeepers. But the movie's Ruth Gordon (as Alice) investigates what happened to her ex-employee who was a victim of this depraved woman. Gordon was made celebrity in Rosemary's Baby and Harold & Maude. The title is derived from Ruth Gordon playing Alice. The always great Ruth Gordon plays here latest companion for this very twisted and suspenseful film. Robert Aldrich produced this oddball thriller, and the film does share the same dark humor as his influential "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" along with the superficial similarities of the title and a thriller involving two older women isolated in a house. It's a fairly cheap production, but the performances by Page and Gordon, along with a script that's not afraid to gleefully dip into over-the-top craziness make it well worth watching. Definitely a fun and unique thriller, though probably not for all tastes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
