In this hand-drawn animated tale, elderly married couple Hilda (Peggy Ashcroft) and Jim Bloggs (John Mills) have their quiet, simple lives in the English countryside interrupted when they learn of an impending nuclear attack. Not completely understanding the gravity of their situation, Hilda and Jim react archaically and insufficiently after the attack -- and the film takes a dark turn as the radiation begins taking its toll on the unsuspecting couple.

Jordan M. Smith IONCINEMA.com A bleak, but lavishly animated marvel. Rated: 3/5 Nov 3, 2020 Full Review Sergio Benítez Espinof A jewel, with capital letters, of the animated cinema of all time. [Full Review in Spanish] Sep 4, 2019 Full Review Scott Clark Starburst What begins as a comfy film about an old (if stubborn) British couple in their twilight years becomes a scathing attack on apathy. Rated: 8/10 Feb 14, 2018 Full Review Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy Political documents from prior generations can't help but lose their force, and yet this is just as powerful now as it ever could have been. Thompson LYTRules.com The images from the movie are haunting, and have stuck with me the past few days, but I feel like maybe I've dragged them out of my subconscious, where they no longer belong. Joseph C Honestly, it was okay. Not as good as Threads or the day after, but it was okay. The British accents make me laugh my ass off with how over the top they are especially the 'Get back here you stupid b**** and get in the shelter!' After that its depressing as one would expect Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Audience Member This movie is as powerful as it is sad, with a clear message, "Stop wars before they begin". The animation is gorgeous with a timely and simple feel to it, and the characters are the embodiment of trust and generations of it. This movie begins with the scene of the military assembling, which is almost never good, and a song with seemingly upbeat lyrics that become darker as the song progresses, mirroring the movie. Then we meet the couple, an elderly pair with a strong bond, Hilda "Ducks" Bloggs, and Jim Bloggs. Jim has a strong sense of trust in his government and is seemingly stuck in "Old timey" war, unknowing that atomic war looms ahead, and is far worse. Both him and Ducks are strong believers of the government's power and in it's ability to help them. Although this movie is meant to portray the couple as incredibly naive, it's hard to believe that Jim, who is well versed and educated in war, is unbeknownst of the danger. Perhaps he didn't want to worry Ducks with the possibilities that awaited them. The bombing scene was incredibly hard hitting, seeing the peaceful countryside that was seen before being destroyed and ruined by the power of man. This movie was an amazing watch, even though I'm no critic, I would recommend this movie for anyone. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/24/24 Full Review Carlos I Devastating animated flick about an elderly couple trying to survive during the fallout of a nuclear attack. Their hope and optimism as they try to maneuver through their new reality, using archaic survival methods is both touching and gut -wrenching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review Anderson O Another sad adaptation. When the wind blows start beatifully when their is Hope and optimism of the Allies teamed with England winning the WWII for this couple, and as the results of the effects of radiation Atomic Bomb dropping, their unity stays with them in their final days. When the wind blows is power story of love and perseverance through hard trials and the results of warfare if your country was affected. A unique must see for its time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Teddy B Raymond Brigg's masterful story is flawlessly adapted with the immortal voices of Peggy Ashcroft and John Mills. Beyond a great film; an absolutely essential watch in every sense of the word.
