Nigel P 07/23/2024 Quite atmospheric. The early spring (?) filming and managed woodland setting make British woodlands surprisingly bleak. Acting is a bit mannered (of its time) but competent. Writing stilted, plot (and ending) fairly predictable. See more 04/10/2021 Lazza's Sapphic imagery is there, but this is not a male transgressor in a female world - it's the transgressor who belongs. There is no real love here. A blonde photographer, his predatory aunt, an isolated house. We linger too long on his face; the countryside is cold, intimidating. This is equally a meditation on age and a corruption of family. It's uneasy, imagery of dolls nailed to the wall disturbing, the violence sexualised and unpleasant.
