      Critics Consensus

White God isn't an easy watch, but its soaring ambition and powerful acting -- human and canine alike -- make it well worth the effort.

Greg L Failed to find a message of any real substance in this. Lassie meets Attack of the [complete as required]. Or is Liszt the answer to everything? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/22/23 Full Review R W This one's a 10/10 for me. If you love dogs get ready for an emotional roller-coaster Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review melissa l I thought this was a horrible move. It's gruesome and sad. I can't believe people are rating it so highly. They must like to see innocent dogs suffer. There was a lot of blood and gore. Yes, I know it's just a movie, and they didn't hurt the dogs in real life, but still I'd recommend to stay away from this movie...especially if you are a dog lover. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review jaap a If you like stuff like Lassie and dogs going on adventures as if they are a person, but in a violent R-rated setting, this is for you. Otherwise, I'd strongly suggest you skip this one. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I am sucker for dog movies, being a dog lover. But this was another level. Although I could not understand the language, the emotions were clear. A very different concept in this genre, and executed very well. It was indeed disturbing, but it holds a mirror to the deeds of humanity. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review william k Powerful allegory paints a dark and pessimistic picture of mankind as more inhuman than animals could ever be; good performances, especially from the dogs. Megan Kearns Bitch Media Powerful, disturbing, and downright awesome. Feb 9, 2021 Full Review Cary Darling Fort Worth Star-Telegram/DFW.com If someone wants to make a case that our four-legged actor friends deserve to be considered for Oscar consideration, right alongside Streep and McConaughey, they need only offer White God as evidence. Rated: 4/5 May 14, 2015 Full Review Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic What it all means is open to interpretation. Read it as a parable or as a horror movie. Read it as the story of love between a girl and her dog. Read it however you want. No matter what your take, you won't be disappointed. Rated: 4/5 Apr 24, 2015 Full Review Emiliano Basile EscribiendoCine Beyond all the variations in the infinity of dog movies that exist, the message is always the same: to tame the beast, you must get down to their level. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 2, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review An overarching theme in White God: instead of attempting to control and dominate Nature, the more humane thing to do would be for humans to become active participants in Nature's design, rather than playing the role of deities.
