Deganawidah A @nblumer Dec 26 It might not fit the formula you are seeking in a spirit-of-the-season comedy but it fits the way life often hands you trauma and bereavement. Like it or not, people we love often die suddenly, at the seemingly high point of life and at the wrong time of year. Our bereavement is a messy, sometimes self indulgent process, and in the midst of it, people often act in predatory ways towards us. We find out stuff about the deceased one that was hidden from us - the feeling that we didn't know the person the way we thought is a very common post mortem awakening. The film doesn't sugar coat beravement and the protagonist feels real - vulnerable and awkward like the way we all feel. Ultimately the movie hints but doesn't prescribe that the steps to renewal often involve sacrifice for others like babysitting for someone going through the same thing - forgiving people you have every right to hate. See more Jan 29 A young happy traditional woman is faced with a sudden murder of her husband before Christmas. She finds out he was cheating on her. She tries to deal with the shock by getting to know the stripper he was having an affair with. She connects with her and then on to different people with different lives as she goes through her grief. She finds out that people who are supposed to be cliche questionable characters are all just humans who are dealing with their own struggles their own way. Which helps her deal with her own tragedy. This could be a lot better movie with stronger directing and scripting. Too many questions are left open for the viewer. But it does ok for what is clearly a low budget production. It definitely IS a Christmas movie. Just not a traditional one. This is one of the best Christmas movies in the last 40 years. See more 06/23/2016 Original, but definitely not a "Christmas movie" as such. Set in December, a woman returns home to find her husband has been murdered, and shortly after, that he was cheating on her for months with a stripper. The movie is her coping in various ways, including drug use, befriending the stripper, spending all her money online and attending her neighbors sex party. All of this is shown in quite an ugly and confronting way. Things don't tie up nearly, there is no cheesy family Christmas ending, though there is a sense of her coming through to the end of the grief and hurt. A lot is left to the viewer to interpret, which a lot of people don't like. It's not a comedy either. I liked it, but it won't suit all tastes. So be warned! See more 12/26/2015 While the indie film White Reindeer is an interesting character drama, it kind of loses its way halfway through. The story follows a real-estate agent whose husband is killed a few weeks before Christmas, and after learning that he was having an affair, she spirals out of control. Anna Margaret Hollyman gives a good performance, but it becomes hard to sympathize with her character after a while. And the message of the film is really muddled; it's not about forgiveness, or redemption, etc., etc. White Reindeer lacks focus and ends up being incredibly disappointing. See more Read all reviews
