Critics Consensus

It's admittedly uneven, but Who Invited Them benefits from writer-director Duncan Birmingham's playful approach to genre tropes.

Katie Rife Dread Central Birmingham does a good job teasing the audience with the possibility of violence, while coyly withholding the orgy of bloodshed that seems sure to explode at some point. Nov 8, 2022 Full Review Nathaniel Muir AIPT It manages to be laugh out loud funny while also making the audience feel uneasy. Oct 18, 2022 Full Review Cass Clarke Slashfilm Even though the film's small talk carefully sows seeds for dramatic tension later, the characters' reactions aren't sharp enough to land what feels like a half-hearted followthrough. Claudio C Who Invited Them (2022) Predictable with Deceptive Ending (11,708 –21 May 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) Adam (Ryan Hansen), his wife Margo (Melissa Tang) and the little son Dylan (Kalo Moss) move to a dream house in the Hills. Dylan is not adapted to the new house and has nightmares most of the nights. Adam and Margo give a party to their friends to show their house, and Adam notes a couple of strangers. He believes they are Margo’s friends or invited by some guest. Their friends Teeny (Tipper Newton) and Frank (Barry Rothbart) take Dylan home to let them have more freedom to welcome the guests. After the party, Adam and Margo find the unknown couple Tom (Timothy Granaderos) and Sasha (Perry Mattfeld) hidden in the bathroom and they claim that they were using cocaine. They say that they are wealthy next-door neighbors of Adam and Margo, and there was a car parked in front of their garage. They went to the party to look for the driver and stayed there, and they befriend each other. Adam discloses to Tom that they bought the house for a trifle, since there were two murders inside, but Margo is not aware. Meanwhile, Margo discloses part of her life to Sasha. Adam and Margo invite Tom and Sasha for a nightcap, where weird things and revelations happen. “Who Invited Them” (2022) is a predictable film by Shulder with deceptive ending. The viewer can imagine the plot since the beginning, despite false leads like Dylan’s nightmares or Teeny rescuing the wounded animal on the road. Further, who discloses personal details of his or her life to new acquaintances the way Adam and Margo do? My vote is five. Title (Brazil): Not Available My Blog: https://maniacosporfilme.wordpress.com/ Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/22/25 Full Review Killer S This one crept up on me. Lots of quotable lines. Love Ryan Hansen and was pleasantly surprised by where it went. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/11/24 Full Review Tasha L Only watched for Perry Mattfeld. It was ok. Nothing really mentionable or of significance. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review HelterSwelter P I almost turned it off after the first two scenes but I'm glad I didn't. This felt like a play in a good way. Some elements felt familiar but there were enough twists and darkly funny lines to keep me interested. If you don't mind low budget and very dry humor, you will probably enjoy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review Rex R Enjoyed the hell out of this. It's definitely low budget. Almost like a mumblecore horror. Also reminded me of Whit Stilman. Simple concept well executed with great actors. I thought I knew what was happening but then I doubted what I was guessing which I think was the intention. And it's a tight 90 min. Just don't expect full on blood and gore. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Chessy T Like if Rupert Pupkin from The King of Comedy staged a home invasion. Loved this concept and the four main actors were all good. Wish it were longer but a strong indie horror/dark comedy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Read all reviews
