John Anderson Variety It might be a comedy about a literary fraud, and underscored by the notoriously hype-besotted proclivities of the publishing world, but Who Is KK Downey? is the real thing. Feb 23, 2012 Full Review Ken Eisner Georgia Straight Who is KK Downey? will be much loved by people who think movies should only be seen after midnight. May 29, 2018 Full Review Mariko McDonald Film Threat Touching, hilarious and vulgar, Who is KK Downey? is what most indie comedies aspire to be. Apr 25, 2018 Full Review Dorothy Woodend The Tyee (British Columbia) It's silly, over the top, and immensely self-amused, a lot like those skinny little hipsters on Main Street that clog every restaurant, and push out the old guys from the Legion. Still, it has a certain ridiculous, obnoxious charm. Aug 22, 2017 Full Review Christopher Long Movie Metropolis KK has a DIY quality that is surprisingly appealing. Audience Member Awesome and funny film paralleling the story of JT Leroy (which makes it great). Also I believe it shows why A Million Little Pieces was embellished and put forth as a memoir: "No one wants to hear these stories from a fat suburban white kid." The film is also a great and amusing commentary on hipster culture in general and how ridiculous it can become. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A delicious piece of contemporary cultural criticism satirizing the hipsters and scenesters with an edgy north of the border - Kids In the Hall sort of vibe. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This has a good amount of it's screen time that feels like a skit on an ensemble comedy show, but it's still amusing and fun. Two friends hatch a plan to make the abused male hustler drug addict protagonist of their novel a reality by having one of them assume his role in store appearances, only to have it all go to their heads as fame finds them. Worth a rental if you run across it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a somewhat strange comedy, its fun and its very different from other movies I have seen. The characters are strange characters and the story is about some of the shenanigans they experience and get into. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member DIE hipster scum ..... or maybe just grow up and get a real life. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not sure what to say about this. I love flicks about the rise and fall of someone, however the fall part of this movie isn't really there. Some of the frantic scenes reminded me of NBK minus the violence but it just didn't live up to it's potential. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
