What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's bolstered by a strong performance from Janet Jackson, but ultimately, Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? doesn't add anything new to Perry's melodramatic formula.

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online [Writer/Director Tyler] Perry can't seem to break from his usual melodramatic, soap opera-esque formula in this movie, but he does manage to tug at our emotions for a funny, heartfelt, relatable look at marriage and love. Rated: B+ Sep 11, 2017 Full Review Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) Hopelessly inert and dreary. Rated: 1/5 Sep 3, 2010 Full Review Xan Brooks Guardian Perry has plugged a hole in the market, for sure; it's just all a bit pleased with itself. Rated: 2/5 Sep 2, 2010 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com While Why Did I Get Married Too? may not win Perry any new fans it will most assuredly keep his sizable legion of fans happy. Rated: 2.5/4.0 Sep 27, 2020 Full Review Jeff Beck Examiner.com There are some decent performances here, particularly from Jill Scott, but they just can't save the clichd material from weighing down the whole film. Tyler H It was great I loved these two films... I liked this much more than the original. BUT that ending with Gavin dying was absolutely stupid.. and did not make sense to give his wife a redemption a year later.. She couldn't move on for killing her son unintentionally, but could quickly move on from chasing her husband into traffic? Tyler Perry what the heck did you end the film this way? What an incredibly overrated writer oh my god. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Bloody awful. Definitely not a comedy. Should come with a warning for violence, swearing and emotional scenes that could trigger people. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Sergio C Tasha is the most funny woman alive and hot as well and Janet keeps getting hotter. Overall a really good movie great cast Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/22 Full Review Audience Member It's a film written by Tyler Perry - so, of course, it is horrible. He does not know how to write. He does not know how to produce. He does not know dialogue. He does not know character development. He does not know story structure. He does not know logic. How, then, is this man so successful? Please, audiences, stop propping him up. His work is absolutely atrocious. Also, poor Dwayne Johnson. Why is he in this film. ... I mean, it's literally only for a second. But, still ... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member hard to watch and enjoy a movie that has constant bickering, but, Janet Jackson makes it worth it Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
