Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway's The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart. The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda's unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba's determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Jesse Hassenger AV Club Is it enough for Wicked to be a better version of those live-action Disney remakes, one with more tactile sets, defter direction, and better leading performances? Maybe. Rated: B- Dec 12, 2024 Full Review Kristy Puchko Mashable Indulgent and unwieldy as it is, Wicked is a thrill, at times wildly funny, heart-soaring, and ultimately inspirational in spite of itself. Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Dwight Brown DwightBrownInk.com Hard to think of many screen adaptations of Broadway musicals that were this magical. Wickedly magical. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Preston Barta Denton Record-Chronicle This soulful adaptation of the hit Broadway show deserves top recognition. [It] sets a new standard for how musicals should be done. Dec 21, 2024 Full Review Frank J. Avella Edge Media Network Jon M. Chu's glorious, perfectly cast "Wicked"...happens to be a potent film about female friendship boasting a fab ensemble led by the commanding Cynthia Erivo, the splendi-fabuous Ariana Grande-Butera and sexy-pants himself, Jonathan Bailey. Rated: A Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Maria Lattila Film Stories As he already proved with In The Heights, Chu directs the spectacle and musical numbers of Wicked with confidence and the picture practically leaps out of the screen. Valerie H A lot of fun, great prices on the leads, but too long. The ending was fire! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Norman Wigington Too much. Too much . Too much story it didnt make sense. Too much gibberish. Too much singing nonsense with no purpose. Too many characters that didnt move the story.
