Max Maller Chicago Reader Kampp's performance tracks the slow immersion into a life of crime with more patience, even sweetness, than we're used to seeing. Aug 24, 2021 Full Review Beatrice Loayza New York Times An absorbing and highly watchable psychodrama. Aug 19, 2021 Full Review Katherine McLaughlin Sight & Sound A chilling portrait of twisted family loyalty, told from the perspective of a young woman caught up in grief, trauma and desperation. Aug 16, 2021 Full Review Ally Ham Video Librarian Magazine Several films explore the significance of the family bond; fewer condemn it. Debut director Jeanette Nordahl’s Wildland is one of the latter category. Rated: 3/5 Jul 20, 2024 Full Review Amy Smith InSession Film It does speak about the issues around violence and abusive living conditions, and I commend Nordahl for telling this story. It will certainly not be for everyone, but I was left emotionally attached by the end of it and you might be as well. Movie Mike A slow moving (too slow) film with excellent acting, which has its moments, but is derailed by a sloppy ending. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/06/21 Full Review Riccardo g It is a drama film that explores the dynamics of a crime family with a dark and realistic twist. Sidse Babett Knudsen, as Aunt Bodil, is extraordinary. She plays a complex woman, capable of alternating moments of tenderness and cruelty with great naturalness. Sandra Guldberg Kampp, who plays Ida, gives a measured and introspective performance. The film is characterized by cold and claustrophobic photography, which underlines the sense of oppression and tension. Nordahl adopts a sober and realistic style, avoiding stereotypes or exaggerated action scenes to focus on psychological and relational dynamics. Some viewers may find the pace slow, as the film focuses more on the emotional development of the characters than the action. Conclusion Wildland is an intense and well-made film that tackles themes such as family, morality and free will. It is recommended for those who appreciate psychological dramas and narratives that question the concept of "family" in a dark and criminal context. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/18/24 Full Review Audience Member ass bad no good make me angry Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Very original coming of age story, and a highly moving and shocking piece of cinema. The film stays with you long after viewing, and leaves you in unable to move as the credits roll. I found the film to be very impressive, and a great piece of work. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Simple, some good acting, visually sharp. Gaps in story, but generally ok if somewhat unbelievable at times. Incredibly shocking moment that doesn't quite make up for the rest of the film's trudge. It was ok. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Obvious comparisons to Animal Kingdom aside, Wildland never truly gets itself going. It's a bleak film with uncompelling characters that feels longer than it is. Nevertheless, there's something about it that keeps you watching throughout. I'm not sure whether it's something I'd recommend, but I doubt I'll ever be watching it again. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
