Critics Consensus

Wildling's feminist themes - and the ferocious Bel Powley performance that brings them to life - are often enough to make up for its narrative deficiencies.

April Wolfe Village Voice The attention paid to images does not translate to character development, story, or dialogue, leaving little emotional resonance, while making me seriously wonder if the men telling these stories understand much at all about female sexuality. May 4, 2018 Full Review Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic It's a promising debut for Bhm, with a lot of promise. But it's a home run for Powley, who makes "Wildling" worth watching even when it shouldn't be. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 26, 2018 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times At its best, "Wildling" is very smart about how we humans like to compare ourselves to animals - from the names of our sports teams to the way we describe the feeling of cutting loose. Apr 12, 2018 Full Review Carolyn Hinds Black Girl Nerds In an age where horror films are filled with repetitive jump scares that do nothing but annoy, Wildling builds tension by creating an uncomfortable feeling within the viewer. Jul 30, 2021 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Sure to appeal to Young Adult fans and burgeoning werewolf connoisseurs, yet it doesn't quite capitalize on its promising premise. Rated: 3/5 Feb 5, 2021 Full Review Peter Sobczynski eFilmCritic.com ...the storytelling gets more haphazard and by the time it finally fully shifts gears into horror, the whole thing just becomes kind of silly, not to mention pretty sloppy from a technical standpoint. Courtney L It's a good movie to watch. Not something you'd regret seeing although I do believe it could've been done even better. The way it ended makes me feel like there could and should be another one to follow. If there were sequel I would love to see it. It's a gem in need of a polishing. Liv and Bel did fine but it could use more star power and some more umph. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Butch R I don't know why this has a audience score of 40% but my wife and I thought it was a Good thriller . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review william h B – Brad Dourif keeps his daughter confined in his attic for 16 years, but when he starts inexplicably poisoning her, and she almost dies, he attempts suicide. Liv Tyler plays a cop who then takes the girl in, and she falls in love with Tyler's brother. However, once the girl is free of her father's drugs she gradually metamorphoses into the titular wolflike creature and kills a rapist and several bad men hunting for her. Too many coincidences and a deus ex machina, but good production values, music, makeup, acting and scenery of the Pacific Northwest. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Really enjoyed this movie. Good acting, good pace, cared about the characters so it was easy to be invested in the story and what happened to them. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member A weird take on the coming of age idea. there's a couple of good twists in this tale but it's best to go into it without knowing too much except that the cast is great, especially Bel Powley. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Great movie. Could've done with a little more polish... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
