Linda Marric CineVue Lamche's agenda is clear for all to see, and isn't necessarily a bad thing. The ability to portray a former freedom fighter turned into a figure of hate, serves as a good example in how a documentary can be both factual and narrative-led Rated: 3/5 Feb 20, 2018 Full Review Guy Lodge Variety "Winnie" gradually reveals itself to be rather a specious work, unabashedly one-sided in its adherence to the "mother of the nation" line pushed by her admirers, and its factually selective absolution of Madikizela-Mandela ... Jan 30, 2017 Full Review Boyd van Hoeij The Hollywood Reporter Nothing new to see here. Jan 28, 2017 Full Review Barbara Shulgasser Common Sense Media Story of controversial activist has violence, mature themes. Rated: 3/5 Jul 10, 2018 Full Review Benedict Seal Nonfics Most rousing of all in the film is Winnie herself. She's still going strong and is a vibrant presence through a number of interviews. Audience Member This film is brilliant beyond what words can speak. Pascale has done an amazing job, and its broadcasting on South African television shortly after her funeral, has sparked a revolution. The truth will set you free. South Africa needs more truth to come out. thank you Winnie. thank you Pascale Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member At last! Great film showing Winnie's achievements which are so often overlooked, and the horrendous treatment by the security services and the lpropaganda against her, Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member An excellent insight into Apartheid and the complexity of the regimes methods of divide and rule Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is compellingly revealing of a typical patriarchal culture that most African women can identify with. Many non-africans cannot begin to understand why she would not have spoken up until now. The producer did justice to the documentary as depicted in the level of real-life footage showcased and interviews documented. Winnie's voice was heard and not portrayed as a saint but a woman caught in a web. There will always be another angle focused on in subsequent movies. I was pleased with the production and facts.
