The movie also has a startling visual texture. Shooting on 16-millimeter film, Mr. Palmason, gliding his camera through snowy woods, has an eye for compositions that rhyme chalk-covered faces and wintry vistas.

"Everyone has a little darkness inside, they just may be too boring to know it. Brothers Emil and Johan are accustomed to the constant roar of rock crushing machines, relentless, filthy mining work, bone chilling cold & foul air, they have different coping mechanisms. Johan shrugs off the bleakness & monotony. Emil goofs off & has moonshine induced fantasies revolving around their neighbor Anna, rifle skill training videos & stealing chemicals to make moonshine. As the brothers argue about who has a better grip on reality, events threaten to loosen the hold that either of them have upon the truth. This dark, surreal film alters and toys with our senses & perceptions of reality. It would make Kafka smile. This is what stories are supposed to do. Film actors are up to the task. While the limited setting gets tedious after a while & the dialogue could be improved, the film is intriguing and refreshing." Not a feel good movie in any way. The protagonist is hard to like. Like Naked.
