Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle This is an often emotionally harrowing depiction of a young idealist running smack into the brutal reality of occupied life. Rated: 3/5 May 27, 2011 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com This is a wonderfully realized human adventure, the tragedy and heartache inherent in warfare coupled with inner bursts of heroism magnetically brought to life first frame to last. Rated: 3/4 Apr 29, 2011 Full Review Tom Long Detroit News Writer-director Martin Koolhoven hits just the right balance of domesticity and oppression here, setting up the film's tense second half with sweet early touches of naivete. Rated: B Apr 29, 2011 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Winter in Wartime is more honest and equitable than most exaggerated testimonies of era's in hard times. Baba B I think people need to give this movie more credit than it has received. The kid, Michiel, had gone through hell for the Brit and at the end of the movie, the director does a fine job of contrasting the face of Michiel; being haggard, worn looking, versus the face of his friend who had not gone through the hell Michiel went through. Michiel's friend's face looks as fresh and youthful as it did at the beginning of the movie (taking in mind the years that went by). I think it was very well done and deserves a better rating than it currently has. Thanks. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/04/24 Full Review Audience Member Wonderfully made Dutch film carried by a 14 year old actor, who faces decisions on right and wrong, and betrayal. We thought it was excellent. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Another interesting WWII story. The filmmaking got a little in its own way, with the score trying way too hard. It was really overbearing and distracting at times. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Una excelente historia acompañada de una bellísima fotografía y unas actuaciones memorables. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Grest but i hope they didn't use real animals to film a few horrible scenes Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review a.l.jude p Something came out real hard after a quite long while.
