Audience Member When Herzog meets a very poor nomad, who has lost everything and most importantly his herd, who struggles to eat and lives "in prison", since he is not nomad anymore, Herzog asks him "what is your dream?" and the lost Wodaabe says "sometimes at night I lie on my back in the sand, staring up at the starry sky, than I am delirious with bliss." This is the estatic reality that only Herzog can film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member A refreshing change from the more depressing topics usually on show by Herzog- this one seems to concentrate on the sweeter sides of human nature- a touching and engaging yet soft piece that shows off Herzog's filmmaking skills and the fascinating lives of the people in the tribe. Less than an hour wasn't long enough for this one though- unlike a lot of Herzog's stuff, it didn't seem to drag on at all. I'd recommended this as a good introductory piece to Herzog's documentaries. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member A documentary on the Wodaabe, a group of nomads of the Sahara, which pays particular attention to their courtship ritual. Herzog gets up close and personal with a tribe that seems to belong to another world in a documentary that feels very intimate and fascinating. It is well shot and faithful, as well as respectful of its subject.
