Deftly directed by star Anna Kendrick, Woman of the Hour uses an incredible true story as the foundation for a powerful examination of the intersection between systemic misogyny and violence.

Tara Brady Irish Times Kendrick proves herself a formidable talent on both sides of the camera. The timeline can be choppy, but this is as considered as it is chilling. Rated: 4/5 Nov 3, 2024 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Kendrick’s knack for capturing period detail goes beyond the psychedelic synthetics and kipper ties. She taps into the treacherous sexism that was hardwired into the entertainment industry and wider culture of the time. Rated: 4/5 Oct 30, 2024 Full Review Amy Nicholson FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) I think she [Kendrick] has a really good sense of psychology. Oct 24, 2024 Full Review Santanu Das Hindustan Times Woman of the Hour does well by taking the serial killer story as the starting point to try and listen to the horrors of everyday livelihood of women, when their voices are not just sidelined, but practically silenced. Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Maria Lattila Film Stories Kendrick, making her directorial debut here, smartly doesn’t linger on the horrific murders Alcala commits, but she doesn’t shy away from them either. Rated: 3/5 Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu This spare, taut thriller uses the prism of a popular ‘70s dating show and a remorseless serial killer to offer up an acute critique of the times Dec 4, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

David H Really well done from start to finish. The acting and directing was nothing less than superb. The mood the director created was intense and creepy. I mean really drew you into a small piece of what Alcala’s mind was like. The guy was smooth and good looking (yes like Bundy) and completely broken on the inside. A true high functioning monster. The entire cast was awesome. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Ben N Being based on a true story is enough to get my wife interested. We also like Anna Kendrick so we were interested in this pic. It was a fine portrayal of the story, with drama in all the right places. It felt a little canned to me by the end, but overall i was left feeling like it was a decent film and I had a good time watching it with my wife, who REALLY liked it. Tony Hale was smarmy in the best way. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review ‎ ‎ It is good in a cinematic sense, but I feel like there too many unnecessary liberties taken - it's too far stretched from the truth for the purpose of being more dramatic. That wasn't necessary at all. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Nikki O First and foremost, the question Anna Kendrick asked on the Dating game would have never been ask or even thought of back then. A simple YouTube research would have told a person who was not of that era that! It was written for now and not of the 70’s. I I know this case inside out and maybe if Kendrick need a part to direct herself in it should have been something else. There where many, many victims and that should have been the focus, not on a women that would never ask those questions and Gloria would never have been bought back then. I know I grew up in the 70 & 80’s. Nice job stealing the victims power away from them Anna! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review Brandon R I cannot fathom the pain and struggle these women went through. I am hurt. I am moved. This film took this story and handled it with such care . Every woman had a future ahead of them that was stolen from them from this awful man. The way the film discussed a woman’s voice and power was intense to say the least. The direction was so on point with so many subtle decisions made that allowed for layered performances all around. The cinematography was also gorgeous, grounded, and tragic. If I had the power to, I would shower this film in awards. What an incredible debut for Anna Kendrick and I am beyond excited for what is to come for her. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/11/24 Full Review Christian H Incredible storyline that left me constantly thinking about the next events. Love that they told one characters story out of order, and completely made the ending a surprise. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews
