See more 05/02/2016 This is an absolutely absorbing docu-drama of the life of Orry Kelly, the Australian kid who went to Greenwich Village and became lovers with Archie Leech, long before the transformation into Cary Grant with whom he made a living selling hand printed ties. And then became possibly the best designer in Hollywood history mastering breasts from Bette Davis to Marilyn Monroe (Some Like It Hot), before using colour from Oklahoma to Erma La Douce in a way which has stuck in the folk memory of a decade. The rowing boat motive reminded me of The Truman Show. Tremendous fun and easy to watch at home. If you missed it in the cinema (as I did), don't dent yourself any longer! See more 12/21/2015 The Women He's Undressed is not a conventional documentary, fitting for its unconventional subject. For the most part, the combination of talking heads, archival footage and bizarre little monologues interspersed with reenactments produces entertaining insight into the life of the eccentric costume designer, Orry Kelly. There are moments however, when the breaks from convention become confusing and the whole thing goes off the rails. It also gives the air of something that can't quite be trusted, an interesting choice for a documentary. It chronicles his rise to fame & his private relationship with Cary Grant before he became a household name. A fascinating film & done in such a unique but compelling format.
