I also felt that Women Talking often took its title too seriously. There were so many times when the characters should have been roused to action. But instead, they sit together and talk or sing hymns again.

While the novel was inspired by real events that occurred in a Bolivian colony, the film takes place in a rural and isolated community where the women, tired of patriarchal oppression, try to reconcile their desire for freedom with their religious beliefs

I really didn't know what to expect from this film. The subject alone had me nervous but it turned out to be a very interesting and intimate watch. The slow pace and exuberant amount of dialogue might be a negative to some but I thought it was really good.

probably done better as a stage show. it definitely was an entire movie of women talking--about if or how they should stand up for themselves, and where forgiveness falls in there. if there was a greater message, it was lost on me. nothing inspiring about costume/setting.
