Eric P Cinema buffs and world cinema buffs should skip it. Directing, photography — disappointing, at least over the first 30 minutes. Very traditional American cinema, predictable storyline scene by scene, from the first seconds of the first shot of most scenes. Episodic, plodding. Acting merely adequate. Mediocre at its core. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Really enjoyed watching this film. Underrepresented, Woven sheds light on Ethiopian culture and successfully displays its beauty on the big screen, focusing especially on the elements of family loyalty and intimacy. Beautifully filmed and written, Woven has reminded me of the significance and impact of the existence of independent film for storytelling. Hats off to Salome, Nagwa and the entire crew of this film! Excited for what's to come next! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Woven is about an Ethiopian immigrant family that come to live in the United States and meets a Caucasian family. Their lives get intertwined after a tragedy occurs. Shortly after the accident, the two families think that their cultural differences might play a substantial role in their encounter, but soon realize that humanity is connected when it comes to emotions like pain, loss and forgiveness. The film appeals to all human beings as a universal story and is about ways in which we as human beings experience difficult things in life and heal through them. Woven has such a beautiful message and I truly encourage others to see this film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw this at the Cleveland International Film Festival 2016. My schedule really limited the number of films I could see that year. Unfortunately I've fallen behind on writing reviews here so it has been nearly two years since the screening and I don't have clear memories of the details of this film anymore. My in the moment rating was pretty high at 4 and a half stars. It is about an Ethiopian-American immigrant family. The co-director/star Salome Mulugeta was there in person for a Q&A session. It was a heartfelt indie film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw this movie at LA Film Festival in Culver City. I saw the trailer before . woven is absolutely amazing movie. It has everything that I was expecting and much much more. This movie is so much relevant today then any other time. Peoples from two completely different cultures, their lives , how we are so similar even though we are from different parts of the world. Our fears, our desire and family issues are same . It showed people who are immigrants in this country, how their kids struggle with pressure from family at one side and fitting in new environment. It makes anyone watching the movie empathize with people who are from different culture. In the end its all about bringing peace, forgiveness even when forgiveness seems like a difficult choice. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member I had the pleasure of seeing Woven at the LA Film Festival. It left a deep mark on my soul! I could not stop thinking about this film after seeing it. My mind continues to process the many complex layers. The dynamic characters took me on a journey that left me on the edge of my seat at times and in tears the next. Deeply rich in culture, Woven shows us that we are all connected. The world needs this message more now than ever. I was inspired to learn that 2 WOMEN directed Woven. A Christian and a Muslim. A collaboration of love that spreads a message of hope. I'm a better person after seeing Woven! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
